A Formula for Mom's Happiness
By Marybeth | May 09, 2011 at 03:14 PM EDT | No Comments

In 2008, I co-produced the Ocean of Gratitude Cruise.  One of our presenters was Caroline Miller.  I am always excited when I see one of our presenters out there in the world sharing their important information.

On Mother's Day 2010, Caroline was a featured speaker on Fox and Friends!  http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/fox-friends-weekend/index.html#/v/4683912/give-mom-the-gift-of-time/?playlist_id=163197  She had really important (now I feel it was important as it pertained to Mom's!) to share about What Makes Mom Happy.

Here is her formula for a happy mommy and as we all know: when mama's happy, everybody's happy!

1.  Take things OFF mom's plate.  Yes, dad and kids-this means YOU.  Fold the laundry, unload the dishwasher, put the clothes away.  Mom doesn't have to do it all.  Helping in small ways show your know you are part of the family and your help means a lot.

2.   Give Mom an experience not a 'thing.'  As Caroline says, the moment the thing comes out of the box it depreciates.  Experiences create memories and they appreciate over time.

3.    Set an example of Gratitude.  This is for you Dad.  Caroline suggests that Dad shows mom that he appreciates what she does for him and the family.  Gratitude is directly related to happiness...and we all want to be happy!

4.  Take Mom out on a date night!  Here you go again Dad!  Caroline says that the brain loves novelty - which is new and different things.  Going out with other couples and doing new and different things helps relationships to thrive.

Each of these things is an investment in a little time and energy and yes, the date night can incur some monetary involvement, but the return on your investment is a happier, healthier relationship with the Mother of the household.  Seems simple and a NO BRAINER to me...but then again, I'm a Mom, so I like the sound of this!!

What's important in life?

What's important in life?

When I had just gotten married and was about to drive away from my childhood home, my dad stood with me saying his good-byes.  Dad was not much for sentiment, but what he said to me, I will never forget.

"Marybeth," he said, "Whatever you do, make memories with your children.  They will always have their memories for their whole life."

We often get distracted with the collection of things, the acquisition of stuff and the accumulation of bigger and seemingly better.  As time passes, these objects, this stuff and all the accumulations slowly break down and turn into dust.  What remains intact, are memories.

The most important things in life are the relationships we create, the love we share and the joy we experience.

Dad was not much for sentiment, but he was full of wisdom.

Thank you, Dad

Down the Rabbit Hole! Wheee....

Well, I've put it off long enough...writing this Blog, that is...So here goes.

This is going to be a collection of sorts.  A collection of stories, intriguing things I've learned or found and my ideas, which can be pretty 'out there.'

I want to begin by sharing someone I recently found...this person goes by the name of UnAsleep.  An interesting name, as my coaching is called Conscious Coaching...anyway...this person has an incredible ability to put words, music and video together to tell a story.  And the story UnSleep tells is not an easy one to share, as it's scope is of the nature of unnatural, unspeakable and rather unthinkable.  I was going to say that the videos make you think, but they actually make you pause.  Yeah, pause, because the ideas that are pointed to are not easy ones to comprehend, but I love them.  That's one thing about me, I absolutely love pondering subject matter that is not easy to pin down.  I leave the easy stuff to locker room conversations.  I enjoy the deep stuff...so here we go...down the rabbit hole!  Are you brave enough to enter?  Come on!  What have you got to lose?
